The purpose of the course is: (1) Teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. (2) To prepare the student to recognize emergencies, respond quickly and effectively emergencies, and prevent drownings and other incidents. (3) Develop a high level of proficiency in the strokes techniques used in lifeguarding and water safety. (4) Develop a high level of proficiency in various rescue techniques and other areas needed for lifeguarding, such as first aid and CPR. (5) Develop a high level of fitness to meet the demands of lifeguarding and water safety. Satisfactory completion of this course may lead to certificates in American Red Cross Lifeguarding Training and First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
